Prime Time Player letter 2019
Apr. 29th, 2019 08:02 pmDear Prime Time Player,
Hi! First of all, thank you for signing up to write one of my beloved fandoms! What follows is a good bit of rambling about my general likes and dislikes and my feelings on each fandom as well as some prompt ideas. If it helps you to get to know me, great! If it makes you want to run screaming in the other direction, please don’t! I'm just offering some ideas; write something that you like, and odds are I will like it too. I promise will appreciate whatever you write for me. :)
General Likes:
• Hurt/Comfort, emphasis on the comfort! Hugs, protectiveness, affection.
• Character-driven stories
• Familial and sibling relationships (actual blood families or friends/families of choice), strong male friendships
• Happy endings
• Plotty stuff is great and I can really get into it, but I also enjoy one-shots that act as tag scenes for episodes or vignettes that show little slices of life.
Dislikes:
• Incest, slash, porn
• Gore, excessive violence
• Mpreg, gender-bending
• Excessive swearing/foul language
• Main character death (especially if it’s canon…)
My requests:
1. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017): Peter Parker & Tony Stark, Happy Hogan & Peter Parker & Tony Stark
I really enjoy stories that focus on the father-son dynamic between Tony and Peter. Peter's character is precious and brings out a really enjoyable side of Tony. I'm always up for a Peter-in-peril story, though I also like the idea of him saving the day and protecting Tony. I also enjoy Happy's character, and there's so little fic to be found about him, so if you want to include him in the family dynamic that might be fun.
I adore Tom Holland's version of Peter Parker. Sweet, fairly innocent, but so determined; a truly good kid who Tony tries to resist getting attached to. (Which, of course, doesn't work. :) That Peter gets to know his hero on a more human level and still loves him is pretty cool. I like the idea of Tony helping Peter out with normal life issues, or bonding over their shared intelligence, as well as superhero issues; maybe imparting knowledge he's learned the hard way, like dealing with anxiety attacks or handling relationships.
I've always found Happy to be an interesting character. The idea of a bodyguard for superheroes is fun. Happy's got a very protective personality, so I think his interactions with Peter (once he grudgingly comes to care for the kid) could be fun to explore.
With this request, I would really like to keep it set either before Infinity War or in an alternate canon (if Thanos never existed...), if possible.
2. Jurassic Park - All Media Types: Owen Grady & Alan Grant, Alan Grant & Lex Murphy & Tim Murphy, Gray Mitchell & Zach Mitchell
I adore the original Jurassic Park and really enjoyed Jurassic World; I like to bridge the two. Owen and Alan would have a lot to talk about, being the two men most acquainted with velociraptors. I'd really love to see them meet. I also would like to see more of Alan relating to the kids he survived the park with, maybe being a father figure to them as they grow up. As for Gray and Zach, I just enjoy reading brother relationships. Maybe something with their recovery? Or their reactions after the events of Fallen Kingdom?
The original Jurassic Park holds a special place in my heart as the first movie to truly make me a fan. I love animals, and I really appreciated the line where Alan tells Lex that 'they're not monsters, they're just animals, doing what they do.' I loved the bits in Jurassic World that paid homage to the original; it felt like the same world, updated and on a bigger scale.
A meeting between Alan and Owen would be really interesting. I would think Owen would have wanted to talk to him when he was first getting involved with the raptors. But what would it take to get Alan back on that island? Or would Owen go to him? Or perhaps they might meet later, after the disaster or even after the island is destroyed.
I enjoy the setup where Alan hated kids, but ended up caring for Lex and Tim. They all seemed pretty attached by the movie's end. Does he stay in their lives? Since he apparently did not go on to have kids of his own, and their parents were in the midst of divorce, does he become kind of a father figure? Maybe he walks Lex down the aisle at her wedding, or Tim comes out to his dig sites because he never lost that interest in dinosaurs despite everything. What do they think when Jurassic World opens?
As for Zach and Gray, I love that the trauma brought them closer together and brought out the good big brother in Zach (which seems to have been missing beforehand). And I like that they were resourceful enough to rescue themselves, but still thought they'd very much like to stay with Owen once they had him. I think they'd stick pretty close together for a while once they get home. Give me missing scenes on the island or a recovery story or something years in the future...whatever strikes you. :)
3. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (Movies): Newt Scamander & Theseus Scamander, Albus Dumbledore & Newt Scamander
Newt Scamander fascinates me. More comfortable with beasts than people, his human relationships are pretty complex. I'd love to read about his relationship with Theseus, whilst they were growing up or present-day. I'd also be interested in his relationship with Dumbledore: how did they get so close? Was this the only adult a teenaged Newt could connect with?
What I love about Newt is his love for the creatures, the way he is totally comfortable and confident with them and yet is awkward and struggles to relate to other humans. He doesn't want to be involved in a war, but he cares too much to sit it out.
From the first movie I got the impression that Newt and Theseus' relationship was estranged, but I didn't get that from the second at all. Instead we have a successful big brother who seems to genuinely love his little brother and is trying to connect with him and keep him out of trouble. I'd love anything that builds their relationship, background from their childhood or missing scenes or future fic.
Albus Dumbledore is a character I honestly didn't care for in the Potter-verse. I liked him a lot more when his faults started to be revealed in the last book; when he seemed more human. This younger version interests me more. There's a degree to which he's using Newt like he will later use Harry, but Newt calls him on it, and goes forward anyway. Their dynamic is intriguing.
4. MacGyver (TV 2016): Jack Dalton & Angus MacGyver
I'm good with mission fic, missing episode moments, or slice-of-life one-shots: maybe Jack adopts a dog, or Mac gets chicken pox. Or if you like AU's, make them Starfleet officers or Sentinel & Guide, or send them to Hogwarts. As long as these two and their amazing friendship are the focus, I'm happy. :)
For its first couple of seasons, this was my favorite show. For me, the heart of it was Mac and Jack's relationship. Jack is my favorite character with his humor and strength and easy affection and the way he takes care of Mac. I hate to be that person who gives up on a show when a character leaves, but I have to admit that I've pretty much lost interest without Jack.
Mac is less demonstrative, though I think his affection for Jack runs just as deep. I really like hurt/comfort stories in this fandom. I love Jack protecting Mac, but it's fun to read it the other way around as well, with Mac doing the caretaking.
5. Temeraire - Naomi Novik: William Laurence & Temeraire
I love the dragons in these books, and I love how Novik writes their relationships with their humans. Anything focused on Laurence and Temeraire's interactions will make me happy. Maybe something triggers the protectiveness that runs both ways...injury or illness or just some misunderstanding. Or what if there is no war, or the setting is more modern; are they still having adventures?
So, these books are my current Favorite Thing. I love the writing and the concept and the plots, and I really love the dragons. Temeraire's characterization is amazing. I only discovered them a few months ago; I'm currently in the early chapters of book 4. I enjoy the human interactions as well; I'm a fan of Granby and the crew and I love how Temeraire is possessive of them all.
Thank you again for writing for me; I am looking forward to reading your story! Have fun writing and I am sure I will love it. :)
