Dear Prime Time Player
Apr. 30th, 2014 05:28 pmDear Prime Time Player,
Hi! First of all, thank you for signing up to write one of my beloved fandoms! What follows is a good bit of rambling about my general likes and dislikes and my feelings on each fandom. If it helps you to get to know me, great! If it makes you want to run screaming in the other direction, please don’t! I will appreciate and cherish whatever you write for me. If that’s the only helpful sentence you can take from this letter, that’s okay. :)
General Likes:
• Hurt/Comfort, emphasis on the comfort! Hugs, protectiveness, affection.
• Character-driven stories
• Familial/sibling relationships (actual blood families or friends/families of choice) , strong male friendships
• Happy endings
• Plotty stuff is great and I can really get into it, but I also enjoy one-shots that act as tag scenes for episodes or vignettes that show little slices of life.
Dislikes:
• Incest, slash, porn
• Gore, excessive violence
• Mpreg, gender-bending
• Excessive swearing/foul language
• Main character death
My requests:
• The Hobbit (Thorin, Fili, Kili)
The fun-loving brothers would seem to have quite the personality clash with their serious and brooding uncle, though there is clearly a deep bond between the three of them. Anything that highlights that bond will make me happy. No incest, please.
I fell in love with An Unexpected Journey. I love the book as well, but the dwarves didn’t really come alive for me as individual personalities until I saw them portrayed on screen. Fili and Kili are terrific, and I love the familial dynamic with Thorin. He loves them, is a father figure to them, but has to weigh that against his duty as king to all his people.
One of my favorite bits in Desolation of Smaug is as they’re leaving Laketown, Thorin trying to tell Fili his duty and Fili making it clear that he places family first. I imagine that training him as heir was trying for both uncle and nephew. I really enjoy fics that explore their relationship. I also love the close bond between the brothers, the protectiveness there. Or something that shows a more lighthearted side of Thorin might be fun to explore!
I enjoy stories set pre-, during, or post-canon; the boys as children or adults. Whatever the situation, I love reading the interactions of these three. I would ask that if you decide to go with a future story, please consider some AU version of the Battle of Five Armies. (Just this once, everybody lives!) Feel free to include the other dwarves and Bilbo if you wish; I love the whole company. :)
• Star Trek AOS (Jim, Bones, Spock)
Epic friendship! I love the rich dynamics between these three. Jim and Bones have a brilliant friendship, and throwing Spock into the mix makes things all the more complex and interesting. Gen preferred.
I love the friendship between Jim and Bones; that is probably my favorite thing about the characters. But I also really enjoy the dynamic with Spock, with Jim knowing they are supposed to have this epic friendship and trying to find it somehow even as he figures out how to be a Captain.
I’d love something with Bones and Spock interaction, maybe as they’re looking after Jim after some incident or trying to rescue him, or Jim trying to get the two of them to get along. I also like the idea of the three of them stuck together somewhere, depending on each other to survive. Or Spock trying to figure out if the other two are a typical example of human friendship.
So many possibilities with these three! As I mentioned in the prompt, I would prefer gen, focused on their friendships. Beyond that, I’m sure I will enjoy anything you write about them. :)
• Chronicles of Narnia (Shasta/Cor, Corin)
I want to see the boys interacting more, to learn more about their lives once they knew they were brothers. How does Cor (Shasta) adjust to life as a prince with a loving family? No incest, please.
I adore the whole world of Narnia. While there is much good fic to be found, pieces that focus on these two are rare. I think there is a wealth of stories to be told! You’ve got twins who just met, learning to be brothers. One has lived as an abused unloved peasant, little more than a slave, and he has to learn to be a prince. What is his ‘education’ like? Is Corin more help or hindrance in that regard? Does Cor’s past come back to haunt him in the form of memories or even people? What all has he missed out on? I love the idea of Cor asking his brother about their mother or for advice on relating to their father.
Twins are often said to have a deep connection, to know what the other is feeling even when they are not close. Do the boys experience that; did they perhaps even have a sense of it before each knew the other was alive?
Okay, I think I’m rambling. Please don’t feel like you need to answer all those questions! If one of them touches off an idea, terrific. If not, I’m sure I will love anything you come up with about these brothers. :)
